Language Courses & Other Educational Oportunities
Language Courses & Other Educational Oportunities
There are many opportunities to learn the Greek language. As we have seen in previous sections, schools (high schools, lyceums, EPALs), with reception classes support refugee students in learning Greek providing relevant lessons and extra support. There are also many NGOs that offer Greek, English and Computer courses for free to refugees. You can contact your local NGOs for information about Greek courses in your area. Here (attached language schools) you can find a list of NGOs offering free language courses to refugees in Attica and their contact details. You can contact them to refer you to their other departments throughout Greece.Â
The University of Athens also offers Greek language courses with low tuition fees at the Greek Learning Center in Zografou area in Athens. By attending the Greek courses of the Greek Learning Center, you can receive (upon examination) the official Greek language certification. The Greek language certification is an important diploma of knowledge of the Greek language that can help you get interpreting and other jobs in the Greek public sector (e.g. Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, hospitals, etc.), but also in the process of obtaining your Greek citizenship or your residence permit. You can search for information about registration and contact details of the Greek language course hereÂ
