Vocational Training

Apprenticeship

The Public Employment Service (D.YP.A.) maintains 51 Apprenticeship Vocational Schools throughout Greece.

Apprenticeships combine classroom training with paid work in a business of private and public sector. The duration of study is 2 years. While studying, the student attends his classes in the (in Greek) in the afternoon, while in the morning they works as an intern in a company.

Apprentices take place in businesses from all branches of the national economy and in many technical specialties, such as Bakery-Pastry, Hairdressing, Graphic Arts-Printing, Carpenters-Furniture Makers, Fabric-Clothing, Administrative or Financial Employees, etc.

The aim is for the students, by completing their studies, to have gained professional experience in real working conditions. The apprenticeship system has proven to be effective,  as a large percentage of students, after the end of their studies, continue to work in the businesses they worked as interns.

The apprenticeship diploma offers professional work rights. If you are a refugee with legal documents, taxis net codes and at least basic knowledge of the Greek language to attend the courses, you can enroll in an apprenticeship program in the specialty and area of your preference. Ask your local DYPA department about the specialties offered for apprenticeship in your area, the age limits and other criteria required for your registration. Registrations take place every year in the period August – September.
